Maharishi Announces
“I Will Create Peace”

Will establish “lighthouses of coherence” around the world
to eliminate acute stress and promote peace

Immediate results will be less crime, less killing, less fear             

In a bold and unprecedented pronouncement, His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi declared that he will create peace in the world—and he will do it without the participation of governments, whom Maharishi has been trying to persuade to help for 20 years. Maharishi made his announcement during a news conference on July 10 and broadcast live via satellite, Internet webcast, and teleconference.

“I am done trying to convince governments—it’s a waste of time. I have decided to produce the effect,” Maharishi says. “The world has a bright future.”

Maharishi’s announcement comes at a time of rising global violence, seemingly intractable conflict in the Middle East, and the pervasive threat of terrorism, against which even the mightiest nations have no effective defense.

Maharishi says his confidence is based on nearly 50 years experience teaching his Vedic technologies of consciousness, including Transcendental Meditation, to millions of people, and hundreds of research studies published in top scientific journals showing that Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques, including Yogic Flying, create peace in the individual and, when practiced in large groups, can bring peace to a nation and the world.

Maharishi will establish large groups of Vedic Pandits—“lighthouses of coherence”—throughout the world. Vedic Pandits are experts from India who are specially trained by Maharishi in advanced Vedic technologies of peace to eliminate acute social stress—the underlying cause of crime and terrorism—and radiate coherence in world consciousness.

The first signs of success will be clear: “There will be less crime, less killing, less war, less fear,” Maharishi says. “Problems will simply disappear as darkness disappears with the onset of light.”

(JULY 14, 2002) His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi will create world peace by establishing large groups of experts in his peace-promoting Vedic technologies of consciousness in every nation. And he will do it by himself—without the support of governments. But if even one country remains stressed and without a group, world peace will be jeopardized.

Last week, in a bold and unprecedented announcement, Maharishi declared that he would create a peaceful world on his own—and no longer seek government help. This week, Maharishi will reveal details of his global plan.

Maharishi explained how these large groups of Vedic experts will act as “lighthouses of coherence” to reduce acute stress in world consciousness. Through their daily practice of Transcendental Meditation, its advanced techniques, and Yogic Flying, “these experts will enliven the deepest level of Nature’s functioning—the Unified Field of Natural Law, the Will of God—and create an indomitable influence of coherence and harmony throughout the world,” Maharishi says. “Problems will disappear as darkness disappears with the onset of light.”

Global plan

Maharishi emphasized that his plan is “global”—that every nation must have a peace-promoting group to ensure a safe and secure world. “If even one single country is stressed, world peace will be shaken, just as one little thorn throws the whole body off balance. So the whole world consciousness must be made coherent. Those leaders who don’t realize the importance of creating global coherence today will realize it when bombs fall on their countries. We want to prevent that day from coming when any country will have to face a missile. That is why we must attend to the whole world.”

The groups will be formed from among the millions of people who practice Transcendental Meditation worldwide, and will be funded through philanthropic investments to a world peace fund (www.globalcountry.org) or through business enterprises created by the many thousands of successful business leaders in Maharishi’s worldwide organization.

The Vedic experts will not travel around the country or preach. “They will just create a peaceful effect. Problems will disappear as darkness disappears with the onset of light,” Maharishi says. 

Highlights From a Recent Interview with Maharishi

His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is the world’s foremost scientist of consciousness. He is honored throughout the world for reformulating the ancient Vedic wisdom of India in a systematic, scientific framework, which has brought the benefits of the Vedic knowledge and Vedic technologies of consciousness, including the Transcendental Meditation technique, to millions of people throughout the world. The following are highlights from a recent interview with Maharishi on the role of Transcendental Meditation to enliven Natural Law—the Will of God—and create peace.

How does Transcendental Meditation create peace?

Maharishi: “When a tree dries out, the gardener waters the root, which supplies nourishment to the whole tree. The root of life is pure consciousness. When people enliven this field of consciousness within their own awareness through Transcendental Meditation, this radiates an invincible, unifying influence of coherence to promote peace. And the whole world does not have to meditate—that is my strength. One bright bulb can light a big hall. There is so much scientific research to show that one big group of Vedic experts practicing Transcendental Meditation and its advanced techniques, including Yogic Flying, can enliven Natural Law—the Will of God—for every government and create peace in the world.”

Should we be concerned about the role of religion in government?

Maharishi: “The Latin origin of the word ‘religion’ means ‘to bind back to the Source.’

“If governments are not bound by the eternal Laws of Nature, then what are they bound to? If governments are only bound to their humanly conceived constitutions with their human weaknesses and failings, administration of the nation will never be satisfactory. Natural Law means the Will of God which manages the evolution of everything in the ever-expanding universe in perfection and without a problem. If by binding back to the Source—Natural Law, the Will of God—we can bring peace, prosperity, cordiality, and friendship, then why be afraid of that?”

Maharishi: “It is not proclamations of light that remove darkness. It is bringing in the light. If people are poor and suffering, then proclamations that ‘this is the Will of God’ are faulty. It is not the Will of God for anyone to suffer. Now, in this scientific age, the knowledge of Natural Law—the Will of God—is available on the ground of science. You make a prediction, you do an experiment, and you get the predicted results. What will the prediction of a government administered by the Will of God show? There will be less crime, less killing, less war, less hatred, less fear. Only the increase of light will be the test of what happens when you bring a lamp into a dark room. It is producing the effect that matters—not the proclamation of intentions.”

Isn’t everything, including crime, war, and suffering, the Will of God?

Maharishi: “Nothing is beyond the Will of God. Hell is within the administration of God’s Will. Heaven is within the administration of God’s Will. Both killing and saving are within the administration of God’s Will. It’s just a matter of how much one is living the Will of God. If one is suffering in life, it is a minute aspect of the Will of God; if one is enjoying, it is more of the Will of God; and if one is established in total possibilities, then it is absolute Will of God. There is a simple formula: ‘As you sow, so shall you reap.’ You choose whether to be in hell or heaven.”

How is what you are proposing different than praying in church for peace?

Maharishi: “Prayer is always a path to realization, but prayer is on different levels. A man on a bicycle, a man in a car, a man in a high-speed train—all are on the same road, but one goes slower or one goes faster depending upon what one drives. Prayer on the verbal level has its effectiveness; prayer on the mental level is more effective; prayer from the Transcendental area of life has maximum effectiveness, because on that level thought has a frictionless flow—it travels instantly throughout Nature. Transcendental Meditation can be considered prayer from that finest level of consciousness, the Unified Field of Natural Law, where Total Natural Law is fully awake. Prayer from there is a direct entrance into an open door; at a grosser level, you knock and the door will open. Prayer can never be glorified enough. It is a supreme value of human consciousness.”

If the path to peace is simple, why has there always been war?

Maharishi: “The goal is reached only by those who walk on the path. In the name of religion, so many organizations have done wrong things, for which they are now apologizing. People just need to follow their own religion and they will reach the goal. And in every religion, Transcendental Meditation is taught. So many preachers of Christianity, Islam, Buddhism—they all practice Transcendental Meditation and find a correlation with this theme of perfection in life through higher consciousness. It’s all there—people just have to follow their religions. But if they don’t follow them.… I am now establishing large groups of Vedic Pandits who will radiate coherence—Natural Law, the Will of God—throughout the world. They will not travel about, they will not preach—they will just produce the effect. Problems will disappear as darkness disappears with the onset of light. This will be the hallmark of a new time dawning on earth.”

Caught in a deepening crisis, U.S. mayors urged to
follow the lead of Maharishi Vedic City in Iowa

Maharishi says Mayor Robert Wynne will be “a torchlight for the world” 

(JULY 17) Acknowledging the plight of United States mayors who are caught in a deepening crisis without competent leadership from the White House, His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi urged all mayors to look to the Honorable Robert Wynne, mayor of Iowa’s newest city, Maharishi Vedic City, for the knowledge and expertise to solve their problems.

“I am aware that the administrators of U.S. cities are going through a critical time,” Maharishi said. “The chief administrator of their country is leading the nation to destroy the world. All mayors, including mayors of big cities, such as New York and Los Angeles, should follow Mayor Wynne. He will provide them with the Vedic science of administration to improve governmental effectiveness—and be a torchlight for the whole world.”

Maharishi Vedic City has incorporated Maharishi’s programs to create a model city, including adopting as its constitution the Constitution of the Universe—the Unified Field of Natural Law, the Will of God—which administers the ever-expanding universe with perfect order and without a problem. A campaign is now under way to establish in Maharishi Vedic City a group of 8,000 experts in these peace-promoting programs to create coherence for the U.S. and the world.

In his message to U.S. mayors, Mayor Wynne said, “If you adopt Maharishi’s programs you will find governing your city as effortless and as effective as the government of Nature. You will see immediate results—less crime, less poverty, less fear.”
