Details of World's Most Advanced 'Sustainable' and
'Fortune-Creating' Building
Complementary Vedic and 'Green'
Principles

(5 September 2008) Speaking on a recent Maharishi
Global Family Chat, Dr Jon Lipman, Director of Vedic Architecture for
the Global Country of World Peace in America, gave details of the plan
for the world's most advanced sustainable 'green' and Vedic Vastu
building at Maharishi University of Management (M.U.M.) in Fairfield,
Iowa, USA.
Dr Lipman also serves as Deputy Minister of Architecture for the world
under the guidance of Dr Eike Hartmann, Minister of Global
Reconstruction for the Global Country of World Peace. He said, 'In
recent decades there has been a growing appreciation that we have a
positive or negative impact on our environment. Most buildings use huge
amounts of energy to construct and maintain. Sustainable living means
our actions are in harmony with the Laws of Nature and will not
deteriorate the earth, air, or water.'
The B.S. in Sustainable Living Program, founded by Dr David Fisher, is
one of the most popular fields of study at M.U.M. The cross-disciplinary
programme prepares students for careers in architecture, engineering,
urban design and development, agriculture, and environmental studies.
'Dr Fisher had the vision that the Center in which the courses are
taught should completely reflect the principles of both Maharishi
Sthapatya Veda architecture—the ancient system of Vastu vidya, building
in accord with Natural Law—and the best modern methods of sustainable
design,' said Dr Lipman. 'Not only is there no conflict between these
two understandings of Natural Law based architecture, but they support
each other. Still, this is a great challenge, and will achieve something
that has never been achieved before.'

Said
Dr Lipman, 'In his first public talk about Vastu and Sthapatya Vedic
Architecture, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, Founder of the Global Country of
World Peace, said buildings should be powered by the sun, and the
interior should have continuous daylight from multiple directions.' All
the principles of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda will be incorporated in this
new building, including:
- Vastu orientation and floor plan.
- All rooms will be day lit, with light bounced into the interior from
the monitor of windows extending north and south along the roof. No
artificial lights will be needed in any room during the day. This will
achieve ideal Vedic conditions and reduce the energy load needed to
offset artificial lights.
- Thick, 'breathing' walls.
- Photovoltaic panels for 'off the grid' energy production.
- No electromagnetic radiation.
- Constructed without iron or steel.
- Constructed with natural, non-toxic materials.
Dr Bevan Morris, Prime Minister of the Global Country of World Peace,
and President of Maharishi University of Management, recalled that 'when
Maharishi first came out with his Master Plan to Create Heaven on Earth,
solar power was one of the key points. Maharishi, in designing a new
world, thought of these principles of organic agriculture, solar power,
and all these different elements. So it's very fulfilling that the
University is making great efforts to bring together all these
ingredients.' Dr Morris continued, 'It think it would be a great
fulfilment to Maharishi that this is combined with the ultimate
sustainable system, which is Vastu construction, and with Yogic Flyers
occupying the building. Not only is it in tune with the local Laws of
Nature but also in tune with the cosmic Laws of Nature, so the whole
population will receive support for fulfilment of all their desires.'
The Sustainable Living Center will be a great achievement in the world,
and as a 'fortune-creating' Vastu building, it will enhance the success
of the students and the University, Dr Morris said.

The new Sustainable Living Center will be a
perfect model of Maharishi Sthapatya Veda, architecture in harmony with
Natural Law. Dr Lipman explained that the principles of Vedic
architecture, Vastu vidya, more than satisfy the qualifications for
'green' building.
As a model of sustainable building practices, the Center will
incorporate these principles:
- All electricity will be generated on-site,
from photovoltaic panels and wind generators. A back-up bio-diesel
generator is being constructed by students.
- Heat will come from a combination of solar
and biofuel back-up. Insulation in the thermal mass walls conserves
and stores heat. Radiant heat floors utilize solar-heated water.
- Cooling system will utilize the
well-insulated walls to keep heat out. The building will be
ventilated at night, and the thermal mass walls store the cooler
temperatures.
- A desiccated system utilizing the constant
geothermal temperature will regulate the temperature of the building
in all seasons.
- Rainwater will be collected and purified
for drinking. 'Gray' water will be used for certain plumbing and
landscaping. A wetland will treat storm water runoff to prevent loss
of soil nutrients.
- Wastewater will be treated by a 'green
plant mediated living system'.
- The plumbing will be highly water
efficient.
- The building will be totally 'off the
grid', meaning it will not draw resources from the power company,
sewage treatment plant, or local storm water system.
- Almost all the materials come from local
sources.

The Center is designed to qualify for the national
certification system called LEED, 'Leadership in Energy and
Environmental Design', of which Platinum is the highest category. Said
Dr Lipman, 'If there were a higher category, this building would qualify
beyond Platinum.' The Center will also satisfy the requirements of
'Building Biology', another system of certification, originated in
Germany and which has existed in the US for 22 years.
A lesser known but even more rigorous assessment in the US is the
'Living Building Challenge' designed by the Cascadia Region Green
Building Council. Said Dr Lipman, 'Not one building to date has met all
the criteria, but we believe M.U.M.'s Sustainable Living Center will be
the first.'
As a learning centre, the building itself will teach the principles of
sustainable living. Students will observe the functions of the systems,
monitor the humidity and energy storage, and conduct agricultural
research. Students will be able to remove and erect walls as learning
projects every year. The building will include a classroom, workshop,
greenhouse, as well as Dr Fisher's research laboratory.
Already the Center is attracting the interest of media and
sustainability organizations:

Principle of Building in Accord with Natural Law
Aligning any Building with
The Evolutionary Power of Natural Law

The principle of building in accord with Natural
Law—aligning any building with the evolutionary power of Natural
Law—comes from the ancient Vedic Literature. This is the Science and
Technology of Consciousness—the supreme structuring dynamics of
creation—which maintains every particle of matter, everything in
creation, in perfect harmony with everything else, and thereby maintains
eternal order in the ever-expanding, ever-evolving universe.
This is because the inner intelligence of everything is Cosmic in such a
way that it sustains every individual structure; at the same time,
permeating everything in creation, it sustains the holistic value of the
universe.
This omnipresent, all-pervading intelligence—the Unified Field of all
the Laws of Nature—renders every single structure in the nature of
itself, which is both individual and Cosmic. The reality is: the
individual is Cosmic.
Individual intelligence and its connectedness with the Cosmic
Intelligence of the galactic universe is the most precious feature of
life. This makes it clear that on the level of intelligence, everything
is well connected with everything else in the whole universe.
Sthapatya Veda is one of the forty areas of the Vedic Literature. It
details the laws of structuring, or laws of building, any structure so
that structurally and functionally man's creation is naturally in
harmony with Nature's creation—the creation of Natural Law.
This Vedic Science of Structuring, or Vedic Science of Building, which
is Nature's own system of structuring, or building, can be seen as the
system of harmonizing individual life with Cosmic Life. Every humanly
designed, man-made structure should conform to the Natural Laws of
structuring if that structure is to be in harmony with the structure of
the universe—the expression of Cosmic Intelligence.
Such a structure has that quiet influence of order and harmony in its
environment which harmonizes individual life with Cosmic Life.
|
 |
If there is some knowledge
which can be helpful to harmonize human creation (man-made structures)
with Nature's creation, it is wise to make use of this knowledge so that
individual life may enjoy that supreme level of order and harmony of
Natural Law which belongs to the universe, and to the essential nature
of every individual.
Now is the time, in this scientific age, to reconstruct the world and
free mankind from problems and suffering that have been continuing for a
long time. The principles and programmes of Sthapatya Veda will
eradicate the basis of the age-old suffering caused by the violation of
Natural Law.
Sthapatya Veda will remove the obstacles to perfection in life by
providing housing according to Natural Law, and by offering the
knowledge and programmes through which every individual can always gain
the full support of Natural Law for success and fulfilment in daily
life:
-
People need homes built in
accord with Natural Law to gain the support of Natural Law and
promote harmonious family life;
-
Parents need schools,
colleges, and universities built in accord with Natural Law to bring
the support of Natural Law to their children;
-
Patients need hospitals
built in accord with Natural Law to gain the support of Natural Law
for fast and complete recovery;
-
Executives and employees
need office buildings and factories built in accord with Natural Law
to gain the support of Natural Law for unrestricted, fulfilling
success (both for employers and employees);
-
(The effect of routine work
is restrictive to the blossoming of creativity. But when life is
lived in accord with Natural Law, under the influence of auspicious
Vastu, the irresistible power of evolution neutralizes the negative
effect of routine work, and individuals enjoy the theme of
evolution—increasing health, happiness, and prosperity—all the
time.)
-
Mayors need garden cities
and communities built in accord with Natural Law (free from crime,
congestion, pollution, and stress) to bring the support of Natural
Law to the whole population;
-
Administrators need
administrative buildings built in accord with Natural Law to bring
the support of Natural Law to government—for conflict-free politics;
-
Heads of State, governors,
and national leaders need to redesign and rebuild the whole country
in accord with Natural Law, to bring the support of Natural
Law—health, wealth, and happiness—to the whole nation, generation
after generation.
